Having a clean house is a now a luxury more than a necessity. This is because it is quite hard to maintain a clean house these days. We use to have a lot of cats and saving money on litter became a priority once I figured out how much we were wasting every time I checked the receipt at the local Petco. I could just feel the money pouring out of my pocket whenever we went to the pet store to buy cat food and cat litter. Something had to change and there was no way I was giving up my love of cats.

Then I did some research online and found an automatic litter box. At the time my thinking was if it only cleaned the dirt area then I could use less litter and the cats would be happy also having a clean box to go in. Now these litter boxes are not cheap and I knew I had to at least try one. I searched online for a coupon and Litter-maid had a coupon for $70 off their site and Petco had a $10 off coupon so that knocked $80 off the price. It was time to give it a try,

I was amazed at how good it worked and now that we switched to fresh step crystals there is no litter smell and I save a ton on litter. The crystals bags are smaller then the litter we use to buy and it only cost about $16. It cut my litter cost in half at least, it also uses half the amount of litter.

The best part is the cats are happy because they are always using a clean box. I am happy that I don’t have the feline pine smell throughout the house. The little lady is happy because there is less of a mess to clean up. It is a win-win-win situation.

I am often asked in emails how I find some of the bargains I do. It takes a lot of work but I do have a system. Most of the deals I find I get from Twitter. If you go to search.twitter.com and use their search engine it really is a good weapon for finding bargains. I use it everyday at least three or four times.

When you do a search you can use things like the word of the product and the word coupon. You save this search as a favorite search to your Twitter account. (You do have a Twitter account don’t you?) You can also use a hashtag with the product you are looking for. Lets say you are looking for sheets, your search would look like sheet coupon or #sheets. This will give you ever search that includes the word sheets or you can even use a product name instead. I have some searches saved for “Dell Laptop coupon”. Every time it is mentioned I have it saved and I always have a coupon link ready in case I need to order a new laptop or computer.

This saves you a lot of time and energy especially around the holidays. I will have a search for “Christmas presents cheap” or “Christmas presents coupon”. I think you kind of get the idea. You can also use this for other things like when your car oil needs changing. Having a favorite search for the term “Jiffy Lube Coupon” or “Meinke Muffler discount”.

Items that you use over and over again like toilet paper and other personal items that you depend on can be used this way. Over the course of a year it will save you tons of money.

Bed bugs are hard to control. Once they have entered a house, they have been means to insert themselves to wardrobe as good as this can outcome in transferal to adjacent apartments. Some signs that you have bed bugs are the little red dots the bugs make when they bite you. You can do a lot of things to get rid of bed bugs but if you live in an apartment building they will only find their way back into your apartment from a neighbors space.

Birds, dogs, cats, in short, every mammal that can come into contact with the infested bed or surroundings can be affected by these bugs. The belief that these bugs only bite humans is wrong. The bugs are usually colored deep brown or cream to white. Adult bugs can last more than a year without sucking blood. That is a long time so even though you think you solved your infestation problem they are still around.

There are numerous ways that bring these bugs to you. Buying a used mattress or getting one free off places like Craigslist can get you more then you bargained for. Odds are the people giving away the mattress are doing so because they are infested also. Now it becomes your problem too. You may have a newer mattress then what you had but now you have a problem that you didn’t have before. One of the biggest problems in New York City are that people in lower income apartments are either buying cheap mattresses from undesirable locations or getting them free and spread the bugs into their apartment complexes. Like I have said above once they get in they are hard to get rid of them so stopping them before they start is half the battle. Getting new sheets or linens won’t help as the bugs lay their eggs in the mattress.

Don’t let the bed bugs bite you. Stop them before they get into your living space. You will be much better off in the long run. Don’t waste money on new sheets until you are sure your problem is solved. You can buy a mattress topper that is designed against the spread of these bugs but I have not seen them first hand to tell if they work or not. Some people try it as a cheap alternative but they are usually not happy with the results. Once again it is the lower income people that try this method, hence the spreading among the apartment buildings they live in.

Yes, coupons can save you money, and sometimes a lot of it. But just because you have coupons doesn’t mean that you should use them. There are more things to think about than just what coupons you have.

Comparing prices at different retail stores can often prove more effective than coupons. A coupon at one store for $.50 off of an item might be dwarfed by a $1 price difference for the same product at a different store. A number of coupons even work at more than one store, so you might be able to effectively turn that $.50 off coupon into a $1.50 savings by shopping somewhere different.

But you might not even need to go to a different store to save money. Sometimes, big name brands will offer coupons for small amounts, like $.50 off, to entice you to buy their product, but there could also be a smaller brand that offers a comparable product for $2 less. Yes, there is the chance that the off-brand version might not work as well, but why not try it? If it turns out that it does work just as well, which is often the case, you can continue saving money every time you need to repurchase that item.

Even if you need one specific product, and nothing else will do, there are other ways to save money on it other than just coupons. Buying in bulk is a great way to save a significant amount of money in the long run, provided that you will eventually use all of what you buy before it goes bad. By buying 10 of something instead of just 1 of it at a time, you might be able to save something like $2 per item, which translates to a savings of $20.

Of course, just because there are other ways to save money doesn’t mean that you should neglect coupons. Coupons still help you save that extra little bit, so try combining some of these methods with coupons and see what works best for you!
