How to save money on bedding without compromising on comforts - By Vanessa Rizzo
A couple of simple ideas can help you save money you would normally spend on bedding, yet ensure that you get the same level of comfort out of them.
Don't throw away your old, flattened pillows. Take a little bigger pillowcase and stuff two flattened pillows in it. That way, you would
have a fluffy stuffed pillow as good as new at no extra cost.
Tired of your old bedcovers. Wait, don't rush out to buy one in a hurry. Give your bedcover your personal touch and save big money! Sew together
smaller bedcovers, tablecovers or even mismatched patches of fabric for a unique bedcover design.
Keep your eyes and ears open for clearance sales and discounts on bedding items. Furnishing stores usually offer good discounts on these
around January. Save all your bedding shopping money for the sale period and enjoy items at much lower prices.
As with everything else in life, prevention is better than cure even in case of bedding. Caring for your bedding would ensure that they last
longer, minimizing your need to buy new items, thus helping you to save money. Wash sheets regularly and follow washing and drying instructions
that are usually printed on the package.
As a general rule, white and plain sheets come cheaper than patterned ones. White and plain sheets in pastel shades also look cozy and
inviting. So stock up on these. However, you would have to take special care to keep them looking clean and fresh.
Another smart way to save money on bedding would be to buy factory rejects. Often, big brands wouldn't put up for sale items even if they
very little wrong with them, maybe a half an inch stain at a corner or a little over sewn hem. These are sold for a fraction of their original
price, especially through factory outlets. Very often, you wouldn't even find what is wrong with them even if you try.
Make good use of the internet. Very often, online bedding stores offer great
discounts on bedding items. Look out for them. That way, you can
enjoy low prices on bedding items and even have them delivered at your doorstep for free. Also keep your eyes open for discount coupons
published in websites and magazines.
If you are planning to buy a comforter, wait and think if you really want to go for a down comforter that would make you shell out a few
hundred dollars. Why not opt for a down substitute instead? Goose fill is very expensive, so is silk. Opt for wool or alpaca wool instead. That
would bring down the price of your comforter considerably, while providing the same warmth and comfort.
